The National Autism Recovery Diagnostic Paradigm is based on the belief that people organize around a mission or goal and that the goal for individuals afflicted with autism is recovery. The National Autism Recovery Diagnostic Paradigm is a three-tiered program designed to offer parents of autistic children recovery options. Tier I - Good The Good recovery paradigm allows diagnostic centers to distribute autism recovery information to parents at the time of diagnosis. Diagnostic centers would not be responsible for gathering such recovery information but only for distributing it upon completion of the diagnostic process. Recovery information would be provided to diagnostic centers by practitioners and programs indicating some level of success in rehabilitation with autistic clients. Distribution of autism recovery materials does not necessarily indicate recommendation of recovery options, but offers parents options at the time of diagnosis, saving them valuable time in researching options themselves.
The Better recovery paradigm provides the same information upon diagnosis as in Tier I but additionally supplies a list of biological tests parents may choose that may assist in the recovery process. Such tests would be administered at the parents' request and expense and performed by a medical doctor or licensed provider. Tests would not be performed on site. Examples of tests that may be beneficial to autistic individuals include food and chemical sensitivity panels, amino acid deficiencies, essential fatty acid deficiencies, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Correcting deficiencies and imbalances may significantly enhance recovery. Providing testing suggestions is not endorsement for such a course of action. It merely provides information to parents at the time of diagnosis, perhaps greatly enhancing an autistic child's opportunity for developmental gain.
The Best recovery
paradigm utilizes the testing recommended in Tier II at the diagnostic
center at the conclusion of diagnosis. For example, a child diagnosed
with autism would then be tested for imbalances and deficiencies on site.
Biological testing at time of diagnosis may provide clues regarding prevention
by studying epidemiological patterns. Support and guidance would be provided
to parents to correct imbalances and deficiencies. The Best recovery paradigm
is the most comprehensive, on-site approach possible and offers the greatest
opportunities for implementing rehabilitative steps from the time of diagnosis. |
